Students at MFL MarMac High School are becoming online journalists, thanks to a new student website, www.bulldoggrowl.com!
Here’s a note from the advisor, Angie Killian:
Welcome to the BulldogGrowl online student news. This website is maintained and updated weekly by students in the high school media/journalism class. This semester-long English elective can be taken concurrently and provides real world learning opportunities in the areas of writing, speaking and technology.
Students enrolled in this class decide on stories they want to publish to keep the MFL MarMac community informed about what is happening at school from the student’s perspective. They also feature a “creative” television news broadcast approximately every 2 weeks. Students collaborate with their news team to plan, write, record and edit their broadcast.
In addition to weekly online submissions, students agree on which stories should be submitted to our local newspapers. The North Iowa Times and The Outlook newspapers provide a page once per month to showcase certain stories students have written. Students have enjoyed the freedom to report on stories that matter to them and have the opportunity for their voice to be heard.
